You’ve found a home that checks most of your boxes, the price feels right, and you’re ready to make an offer. But… how do you know it’s truly the right fit?
In my experience, every buyer should run through this quick 3-Part Homebuyer Test before committing:
1. Does it solve your lifestyle problem?
Your next home should fix the reason you wanted to move in the first place—whether that’s more space, downsizing, better base commute, or improved amenities. If it doesn’t, you risk buyer’s remorse once the excitement fades.
2. Will you still love it after the moving stress is gone?
Picture life here 12–18 months after you’ve unpacked. Will the location, layout, and features still make daily life easier and more enjoyable? Think about proximity to work, shopping, and recreation.
3. Would someone else want to buy it in 3–5 years?
Life changes, especially for military families. If you needed to sell, would another buyer see value in the home and neighborhood? Factors like curb appeal, resale potential, and HOA standards can make a big difference.
Real-world lesson: One Suffolk family lost their first-choice home by underbidding in a competitive market—then won their next one by putting their best offer forward (and ended up paying less than expected thanks to the appraisal).
